Can you Help Please. !!
« on: Monday 26 February 07 01:53 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a Marriage of Petherick Higman (born Circa 1792) St. Cleer. Cornwall and Elizabeth Lord ( born Circa 1793 In Cornwall )  could well be between St. Cleer and St. Neots... I am only guessing...

I live in Australia and was sent this information that this Marriage took place in a place called Charles in Plymouth about 1813-1815... Why they would be married there in Plymouth ??  I have no idea.. as they lived most of their Married life in a place called Trenant. Cornwall..

If anyone has access to the Parish Records I would be gratefull for any information... both of these people are my G.G.Grandparents.

Thank You
Fay- Australia.

Thank you "krissy" for your reply ( the only one I received) This is my family that you have mentioned.. the children are
1. Grace Higman Bapt. 04 June 1816 St.Neot
2. Eliabeth          Bapt.15 Mar 1819
3. John                Born 11 Oct 1823. Trenant.
4. Mary Ann        Bapt 05 Oct 1828
5. Petherick        Bapt. 23 Sept 1832
6. William James Bapt. 08 Nov 1838
7. Robert Henry      Born Circa 1841.
Source: IGI records and Ancestry UK Census.

In 1845 Elizabeth died then Petherick remarried in 1849 to a Widow Grace Cock.

Krissy I am stuck trying to find a Marriage between Petherick (Snr born Circa 1792) to Elizabeth ??? Circa 1813 ???  This is where I am stuck... as previously mentioned information was sent to me that Petherick /(aka Patrick on some records- think this from Transcribers) has Married an Elizabeth Lord in a place called Charles, Plymouth....I have searched Cornwall and devon but cannot find a Marriage that is why I was hoping SKS would have access to Parish Records and find a copy of the Marriage...

One other clue I found  that my G.Grandfather John Higman ( son  of Petherick & Elizabeth ) on his Baptismn he was Bapt 16 May 1825 Parents Patrick/Petherick & Elizabeth Higman of Dranes St. Neot Cornwall.. fathers occupation" Moor Stone Cutter".. yet on the 1851 UK Census when he is listed as a " Farmer" leasing `140 Acres and employing 11 Labourers. his residence is listed as High Trenant. Cornwall.... This is the same man.. Guess he won Lotto.  ;D

I do hope this all makes sense... again my sincere " Thanks" for your reply.. I do hope that someone may be able to help me or advise where I should look next .. I would love to find out where the Marriage took place and also findout what Elizabeth's Maiden name was.. if I could find that it would help me further in my research..

Kind Regards
Fay- Australia.

Plymouth - parish of St Charles the Martyr
HIGMAN, PETHERICK married  LORD, ELIZABETH  on 25 October 1813.

If you contact the P&WDRO they should be able to supply you with a photocopy of the entry.

Dear Terry
Thank you so very much for your reply... this is exactly what I have been searching for these past months..I was beginning to doubt that a Marriage took place between Petherick and Elizabeth... Both of these people are my Paternal  G.G. Grandparents...

I will now seek to obtain a copy of the Marriage as you have suggested.. but without your help I would not have known that it was the Parish of St. Charles the Martyr in Plymouth.

It is people like you, Krissy and others giving of themselves and helping people like me that makes Genealogy/ Family History such a wonderful Community and I am so happy to be part of it.

Again my " Sincere Thanks"

Fay- Australia...

PS: I had a look at your wonderful website.. I will spend many hours having a look it is fabulous... Congratulations..
