Marriage Certificate
« on: Wednesday 03 March 04 00:12 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the marriage of my 2nd great -grandfather George Fisher. I have birth certificates for his four children.  All the certificates show his wife as Caroline Fisher formerly Pitts. Would Caroline have been recorded as such if they had not been married? The children where born betwen 1868 and 1879.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Hi there Aaron

On a birth certificate the information shown is usually:
NameSurnameandMaidenName of Mother

i.e. Caroline Fisher formerly Pitts

I looked on Freebmd, (from 1868; birth of first known child - back to 1860) but there was no matches for George Fisher and Caroline Pitts.

Just in case her name was not Pitts, I looked for a George Fisher marrying a Caroline ? - it came back with 5 as listed below:

Marriages Jun 1866
FISHER  George    Midhurst  2b 619
Marriages Mar 1869
FISHER  George     Bath  5c 993
FISHER  George Henry     Sheffield  9c 466
Marriages Sep 1869
FISHER  George     Wisbeach  3b 909
FISHER  George     Belper  7b 659

Hi Chris,
thank you so much for such a prompt reply and for your help. I never thought of trying for just Caroline.
It's a bit difficult researching from Australia and I do appreciate your help.
