RISK Surname - Mainly Stirling, Dunbarton, Renfrew & Lanark.
« on: Friday 26 November 04 08:30 GMT (UK) »
Posting a request for information on the RISKS of Stirlingshire and
Dunbartonshire. Also Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire or ANYWHERE!
What started as a general enquiry into my RISK ancestry has now become an ambition to try to connect all these families who lived in these areas.
From copies of family notes I have been given, it seems there were several brothers who first resided in these areas. Having searched several OPR films I have 3 substantial trees of RISK descendants, but as yet am unable to find a connection.
As these are now going back to mid 1600-1700 it is most likely
this link will never be established.
I would really love to hear from anyone with a connection to the RISK family in any way.
Am also more than happy to share information.
TIA,
Coline Murphy,
Brisbane.

Hi Dano,

If you're interested, I've got photos of existing stones in Larbert Churchyard.

Many of them were transcribed in the pre-1855 MI Books but there are also some which were missed or mis-transcribed and obviously lots more post-1855.

Hello Anne,
Thank you for your messages and info which I have just received, having just returned from 3 mths in Europe. I did manage a week in Scotland but didn't get to the areas you mention. I would love copies of anything connected with "Risk" you have. Thank you so much for all the work you do. I have just been looking through the Stirlingshire list in an effort to find your message and noted your amazing photos and descriptions of headstones. I sympathise with the prickly heat and, although not a sufferer, I hate the heat - not a good thing for someone living in Brisbane, Australia!
Thank you again and best wishes,
Coline.

This is mainly to Coline.

Christian/Christina Cockburn married James Risk in Lanark and they had four children that I know of, among them Alexander Gardner Risk and Margaret Cullen Risk who was born in 1867, in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire.
Margaret married William Hamilton in the late 1880s.

If these figure in the family trees you have i'd love to know more about them.

Christina Cockburn is a direct descendant of Gavin Cockburn b c 1803 and I am a direct descendant of his brother David. A distant cousin and I are rying to complete an entire picture.

kind regards
Sue

Hello Sue,
Great to hear from someone with a Risk interest. All has been quiet for a while.
I don't know of any direct connection but the name Alexander Gardner Risk interests me, as there was a James Risk married Ann Gardner and Gardner is a name which appears quite a lot amongst the Risk descendants. This lot were in Kilmaronock, Dunbarton however 100 yrs later descendants could be anywhere.
I'll give it some more thought and get back to you.
Thanks for the contact.
Regards,
Coline.
