Alfred Edwin Ulrick GOOD married Susanna GILL
7 Feb 1854
1854/MA0263 (MA probably means a church record)

Alfred Richard GOODE - Baptism 21 Jan 1855 - 1854/BP1243
(notes in index - born 3/12/18, baptised  21/01/55)  ??? yes that is what it says! If those dates are correct then it was an adult christening at 37 years of age.   Parents recorded as Alfred Edwin Alrich and Susanna. (no surname)  Perhaps the year of birth is supposed to be 3/12/48.

Arthur Wilson - 30 Nov 1856 - 1856/001892
Emily - 14 Feb 1859 - 1859/002080
Herbert -  28 Oct 1861 - 1861/000677
Herbert Gordon died 4 Dec 1862 - 1862/000276
Ida Celina - 8 Sep 1864 - 1864/000779
Ida Selina GOODE died 13 Jan 1866 - 1866/000493
Walter Henry - 27 Mar 1867 - 1867/001241

All surname spelling as GOOD except where mentioned as Goode.

Hi Christine,

Thank you

MA is the registration of the marriage record number in Queensland. Australia.

The 1818 date was not clear in the transcript i received the details from.

Its possible that he changed religion so he could marry his girl i guess.

It was Susanna Gill who was the wife of Alfred Edwin Good according to the birth register on the Queensland Pioneer index 1829-1889

Thanx again

Jewelly

On my CD is is written as 3/12/18..   and the index year is 1854 - so I would think the birth was  3 Dec 1854 with the baptism in 1855.  This obviously fits with the other children.
This is a church record (pre civil registration) so this is probably why Susanna's surname is missing.

ok i thought it was such as i was curious as to whether alfred had a name change but obviously not this was their first child  as he arrived in  3 december 1854 and their marriage was 7th Feb 1854.

As none of the other childrens baptisms are mentioned this first child may have been sickly who knows....

Thanx Trish.

cheers

I originally thought that this was probably just an indication of the changeover in the registers from church records to civil registration.  However, with the birthdate written illegibly, the people compiling the index decided to put the baptism date instead of the birth date.  I did not realise that it was not 1818 due to the date format appearing as normal - if they had 18XX I would have guessed it - perhaps.

Hey Christine

Its ok it will all work it self out eventually,

the reason i questioned it was the original i was given read as though (alfred senior) he had changed his name on baptism but then you sent me information about Alfred Richard partner so that counter acted the previous thought of the name change.

as these people are all gone it makes it hard to decipher where everything fits in and we are all doing the best we can. And i can imagine some of the old script hard to read and also these Goode's! like to put on the E in some names and not others so lord only know how that works! hhehe

Thanks for you help  ;D

It probably doesn't help Jewelly find her Good/e relatives (I have some Goods from Bourke but I don't think they came to Queensland)  :)  - but sometimes a little history may resolve a query

The pre- separation records (1859 was the separation year) held by the Qld registry originally came from NSW where they were kept when Qld was part of that state. Civil registration in NSW started in 1856, so any births/marriages before this date will be church records and I believe the births/baptisms are all indexed by baptism date - as this was the date the original record was recorded and is sometimes the only date recorded. From 1856 onwards they will be indexed by birth date - from the NSW civil register. This is thus as you thought Christine - simply a change from Church to civil records.

Of additional interest is the fact that the early records are in the NSW index - which includes the location for the civil records viz

V18554428 42B/1855  GOOD  ALFRED R  ALFRED E M  SUSANNA
Church record pre 1856

Civil records
7917/1856  GOOD  ARTHUR W  ALFRED E U  SUSANNA  WARWICK
13300/1859  GOOD  EMILY  ALFRED E U  SUSANNA  WARWICK

So the family appears to have been in Warwick.  I checked the AVRI for the church record as it often mentions same & Alfred Jnr was baptised at
Brisbane, St John's (Qld), Church of England  and Alfred and Susanna were married at the same church - so perhaps they were living in Ipswich but went into Brisbane to be married. Alternatively, perhaps the records were all kept by the Brisbane church  ???  If it is important it could perhaps be followed up with the Anglican Church in Queensland.

Trish
