Benjamin WEBB North Nibley or Wotton-under-Edge
« on: Saturday 27 November 04 14:05 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find info on WEBB family, especially Benjamin WEBB, born North Nibley, circa 1801.  He married Hannah MALPUS (more usually spelt MALPASS) and was my 3x gt grandfather.  The family were non-conformist and I haven't found his birth or death.  He was last known of in 1851 census at Sinwell, near Wotton.

Any help wold be greatly appreciated.  (Thank you!)

Thanks I hope so too!

There is an added complication, in that he was imprisoned in 1853 (we was framed  :-[ !!) and so I don't know whether he died in prison.  His wife was "offered the workhouse" soon after and neither appears on censuses after this date.  The family made a new start in south Wales, as did so many unemployed from Gloucestershire.

You never know, someone may have a clue hot to go about tracing convicts!?

Sorry Kapajoy51, this is a Gloucestershire family, at least in origin.

Both Hannah and Benjamin were born in North Nibley and they were at Sinwell which is nearby in 1851.  Benjamin was sentenced to Millbank, but I have not discovered whether he ever went, or remained in Gloucester,  I don't think he was actually transported.

Two records exist of his convictions: over 3 years he aged 9 years and lost 3 inches in height!!  Of course it may not be the same man...

Thanks anyway for your interest and good luck with your searches.
