POLL: Ancestors in and around Ely.
« on: Sunday 28 November 04 11:16 GMT (UK) »
All but two surnames of mine live(d) in the Ely area from the mid 1700's onwards. This has made my research much easier although a little confusing at times.

Where are your ancestors most commonly found in the Ely area?  Choose any five places that your ancestors lived.

I'm expecting Ely, Witchford, Littleport and Haddenham to get the most votes as they have been considerably larger than the others for a number of years... but let's see how it goes.

Hi Anjo,

It's just out of interest.... and perhaps to stimulate conversation a little more.  I probably wont bother doing any more though as they dont seem to be used.

 :) Hi All

If there are a lot of Cambs researchers with ancestors around Witchford how about listing a few names to see if we can do any matchmaking?

Mine were in the registration area of Witchford -

King family of Benwick / Whittlesey.

Pooley family of Friday Bridge - can anyone please tell me where Friday Bridge would come in the 1861 census?

I have Sarah Ann Pooley who was born abt 1847 and on the 1881 census gives her birth place as Friday Bridge although I suspect that her family may have been gypsies and may have moved around a lot.

Sarah married Henry King who's family goes back to Jeremiah in the 1700's in Cambs.

Cheers
Janet  ;)  :D
