( Somerset) 1891 Census Lookup Request Please For Charles Rossiter

Hi,

I am trying to find information please about the children of Charles Rossiter who married Alice Hart in 1890 in Wellington.

Charles was born circa 1853 and Alice was born circa 1865;both in Wellington.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

I cannot see either one of them in 1891 or 1901 census England or Wales

Charles and Alice are proving to be very elusive.

I've checked all the censuses apart from the 1871. Do you think you could have a go at finding just Charles in the 1871 please or would you prefer me to put in a separate request?

Do you have him in the other censuses. I am not having any luck in 1871 either 

These are the only two Charles I can see born about the right time in Somerset in 1871

Servant aged 16 b in Taunton Living Bradford
Son of William and Susan 17 b North Petherton

Actually I must be missing something here cas I don't see him in 1861 or 1881 either.

Thanks for that.

My problem is that I actually know so little about him hence my census requests.

Charles married Alice Hart in 1890 but died about 1896. They had an unknown son who died in infancy and two daughters Alice and Florence. In 1898 Alice Hart married John George Lethaby and eventually ..not sure when..they took the two girls and emigrated to New Zealand.

I was hoping that the censuses would turn up some information about his origins and his children so that I could link the lot to their ancestors.

I did find an Ernest John Rossiter who died aged 0 at Wellington in 1891 but without corroberative information I could not be really certain he was Charles's son.

Ricky1 gave me a couple of possibles for Charles's parents but one was at Taunton and the other was at North Petherton  which aren't particularly close to Wellington as far as I know.

I have information about the North Petherton family in my database but dont'recognise the other Charles Rossiter born 1819 at Taunton, who married Martha. Maybe I should follow that family.

PS: I don't even see a likely death for Charles and these girls were born HART.
There is a Charles b and living Burlescombe Devon. (Reg Dist Wellington) He is with his mother in 1881. Thought I may have been onto something but he is with his mother in 1891 still Unm, and by 1901 still living and now has a wife. Think you need marriage cert for fathers name to sort this one out.

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to look this up for me.

As you say it certainly looks like Alice and the children. FreeBMD confirms Charles & Alice's  marriage in the March Qtr of 1890 but it may well be that they had the children before they got married.

Am I right in thinking that in this census Alice is a widow or is it the case that Charles is just not there.

FreeBMD has a death record for a Charles Rossiter aged 50 in the Wellington Registration district in 1903.

Maybe my informant has the broad strokes right but not the exact detail.

I found your Rossiter from Burlescombe. He was the son of William Rossiter & Caroline Owens but I know little else about him.

As you say, it looks like it is a certificate job.

I have one Rossiter in my (non-connnected) working files...

Henry John Rossiter 1860-1953 married to a Emmiline V Vallis 1865-1930 from Weston, SOM

Emigrated to Mays Landing, NJ, USA.

Thanks for that. Fortunately, I have that Rossiter in my database already, which is more than I can say for this Charles who is proving to be hard to track down.

Wonder if it is possible to find the family posted by krisesjoint at the same location in earlier and later censuses?

What are these "non-connected" files by the way?
