Denholm
« on: Tuesday 03 April 07 15:14 BST (UK) »
I would appreciate any help given on this family. I've just went through 30 credits on SP with only one certificate a success.  :(

All I have so far is JOHN DENHOLM (born c.1890) marrying JESSIE JAFFRAY in Innerwick, 1914. His birth is not the one in North Berwick 1890 (713/00 0019) or Tranent 1891 (722/00 0203). On his marriage cert., he names his parents as ROBERT DENHOLM, farm-servant, and JANE SMITH. I have found Jane's death in 1930. Robert is still living by this time but I can't find a death certificate for him.  :( John's witness at marriage is Thomas Denholm, a possible brother?

Anyone have any ideas on finding this family?

This may be him in the 1891 census in Coldingham/Grantshouse. (I don't really know the area but  think that Grantshouse is a smaller registration district in the bigger parish of Coldingham).

Robert Denholm  37 Railway Surfaceman Berwick upon Tweed
Jane  36 Chirnside, Berwick
Robert  14  Farm Servant Coldingham
Alexander 11 Coldingham
Maggie 9 Coldingham
Mary 6 Coldingham
Thomas 4 Coldingham
John 1 Coldingham

There is a birth in 1889 in Grantshouse for a John Denholm on SP.

Wow, that was quick. This really does look like the family. Just after I posted, I found a birth for Jane in Chirnside, using the DC's parents names. Thanks a lot!  ;D

Did you find all the information you required? Robert Denholm (Denham) was my 2nd cousin 3 times removed, I have done some research on this line.

Hi Andy,

I was researching this family for a friend and unfortunately haven't researched any further. You might have it already but I'll have a look and pass on any useful information.
