Hi

Just seen a c1900 map reference to the chapel and it says Mission Ch. and it was on the west corner of George Street and Spring Wood Street.
It would have been demolished when they made the ring road. If you look at a modern map it would have been where the slip road on to Trinity Street from the Ring Road is.
It would have been demolished at about the same time as the Queens Street Mission was built in Kings Street and as now been moved to Lord Street. I think this was associated with the Queen Street Chapel but I might be worth sending an inquiry to the Mission on Lord Street.

I think your chapel will be under the site of what is now a leisure centre and pool.  It replaced the centre for adults who had disabilities, and had the address of George Street, Springwood.  Have you tried Kirklees Image Archive online for a photo of the chapel?
Good luck with your search.

Thanks so much for the extra information, that article by Huddersfield Exposed is wonderful! I will certainly check out the Kirklees Image Archive as well and see if I can find any photographs ;)

Hi Jen, have you seen the article in the Huddersfield Chronicle giving details of Robert Stainton's funeral.  It is available on Find my Past.

Hey Libby,

Yes I have the article from the Huddersfield Daily Chronicle, along with loads from Sheffield, where he was well known. Newspapers are such wonderful resources aren't they ;)
