Hi Jean

I have had a look at my Milburns - I haven't got a George :(.

I have a Joseph Milburn that was born in abt 1807 GreenCroft Lanchester....I haven't as yet ordered his birth certificates to see who his parents were.  How old is your George.... maybe George and Joseph were brothers  ???

Michael is very good ....:) hope the can was good Michael - still haven't found anything on my John Thomas ...theres always one that decides to be  ellusive.

If you find anything Jean would love to hear about

Hi Jean

doesn't ring any bells straight away ..but will have a look through and see if I can  see anything.  My Milburns appeared to have moved to Evenwood in 1851 as on the 1841 cenus they were living in Newfield

Joseph 44 an agricultural labourer - but later worked in the mines born in Greencroft Lanchester abt 1807
Jane (nee Coats)
Mary Jane 10
William 8
Thomas 5
Joseph 2
and their neice Jane Coates 4

they married in 1832 at Auckland St Helens and must have been living in or near Evenwood as they had 2 children William and Thomas.  However they both died in Nov 1838 William on the 4 Nov aged 4 and Thomas on the 21st aged 1.  Very sad.  Am not sure how to find the parents of Joseph though.

I will have another look through my info though

Thanks for that Lynne but I already know that George Milburn was baptised 15th Jan 1797 and I think his parents were John Milburn & Sarah Greenwell who were married at Whorlton 17th May 1780.

I was just trying to find a connection with Kazdel's Milburn family who also lived in Swann row, Evenwood.

The only problem I have with my family is I can't find them on the 1871 census.
I think the pages may be missing .... I wonder if Michael Dixon might know.
I've searched every way for them.

In 1861 they were living, East side, High Hope Street, Crook
John Milburn 31
Mary (Laidler Milburn 24
Mary J  Milburn 2
John G Milburn 1

In 1881 they were living White Lee Villas, Crook.
John Milburn 51
Mary Milburn 44
John Geo Milburn 21
Ann Milburn 19
Laidler Milburn 17
Sarh Milburn 14
Thomas William milburn 6
All the children seem to be born in Crook but there seems an awfully big gap between the last two children, unless there's some kicking around I don't know about. If there is, they would be married by the next census, so I'll never know unless I can find them in 1871 or send for a load of birth certs.

Any help on this would be appreciated.
I wonder if Kazdel has found John Thomas Milburn?

Thanks again
Jean

Hi Jean

Yes i believe this is the correct family this is my husbands family

George and Sarah Proud were his gg grandparents
i have sarahs dad as George Milburn mother Jane surname unknown

siblings for Sarah i have
Elizabeth
John
Joseph
George
William
Margaret

If this is correct you would be a distant cousin of my husband.(Graham)

Im unclear as to Abraham Proud (Grahams G Grandad) as i have him in my tree as being born in 1856 in Evenwood so there may have been a son born and died with the same name, as my husband Grahams dad died when Graham was 11 he didnt really see his Proud side is info is abit sketchy.

Any help would be great as we dont go to Durham very often.

Hi Laura,
Jane's name was Madgin ..... if you private message me an email address I can send you a photograph of the headstone of George Milburn and his family, they are buried in St Helens Auckland.  George remarried after Jane died. There's too much info to put on this thread.   I'll see what I can find on your Proud side.
