Moritboys=Coley

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes. Sarah Coley born 3rd Q 1852 Yardley Wood ref 6d 131 appears to have married George Mortiboys born Q2 1989 Solihull ref XVI 540 - marriage Q4 1871 Aston 6d 625.

They seem to be in the 1881 census in Yardley, RG11/3084; Folio: 132; Page: 10.

Then George disappears. Sarah is given as a widow in Yardley in the 1891 RG12/2463; Folio 57; Page 7. In the 1901 census she has a son Bertie aged 10 who is not in the 1891, so the inference is that she was pregnant with Bertie at the time of the 1891, so presumably George was still around up to about August or September 1890!!

I cannot find a suitable death for George anywhere.

Anybody any ideas? This is a loose end for a branch of my tree but loose ends are annoying.

The father of Herbert, birth registered Sept ¼ 1891, need not have been George!

I have a couple of "widows" whose husbands were still very much alive but had left them.Widow was a convenient way of saving face.
It does seem strange that there is no death registered for George around 1891 but assuming he died in Yardley you would have to search the PR's there which are held at the B'ham Library. There doesn't seem a way round it.
Sorry can't be much help.

Hadn't thought of that one, believe it or not!

I had tho' got as far as thinking that George might simply have pushed off.

Chris

Hi
It's possibly of no specific use at all.........but I was at school in 1950s with a girl named Veronica Mortiboys in Stechford, the next suburb to Yardley in Birmingham. It was such a beautiful sophisticated name that I never forgot it!
Good luck with your continued searching.

Dear Ankerdine,
I had to reply to your reference to Veronica Mortiboys. Not just an elegant name, but she was also a demure, pretty girl. I believe she was my first love, but she never knew it and was far to grand for me to have ever dared say so.!
I too attended Stechford Road School in the 1950's and lived in Westbourne Avenue, close by.
She was blond and always dressed in pretty clothes, though my memory my fade, her name I have like you, also remembered..
I talked my parents into calling my sister Veronica and now 65 years or so later, I am trying to convince my son and his wife to call their daughter due in three weeks, to call her the same. I Googled her name out of curiosity yesterday and saw your reply and had to respond, I hope you don't mind.
I hope you read this, Her name and she herself, was certainly extraordinary.

I also went to Stechford Road School in the 1950's and can remember Veronica Mortiboys. My best friend at school was Tony Toon and we were both in love with Veronica. She lived in Rymond Road, I lived in Hodge Hill Road and Tony lived in Maryland Avenue. Tony and I used to meet at the junction of our roads and wait for her in the hope that we could walk to school with her. Unfortunately, 60 years later, I have no recollection of what she looked like.
