Harkness family Wigtownshire
« on: Wednesday 25 April 07 20:58 BST (UK) »
My ancestors are William and Catherine Harkness (nee Hamilton) from Leswalt. William was born in 1813 and worked at Calhame House, Logan Mains in the parish of Kirkmaiden. His son Robert born 1840 was one of my ggg grandfathers.
I would love to hear from anyone who is related to this family or may have information about them. I have census returns back to 1841.

Best wishes Mercel  ;D

Greetings Mercel  ;D
I've just seen your post and am wondering if we're looking for the same Robert Harkness from Kirkmaiden, Wigtownshire, Scotland. He would have been born between 1835 and 1855. His son John (who preferred to be called "Jack") was born in Scotland in 1872 and married Mary Gertrude Enright Harkness in Illinois, U.S.A. in 1895. (They were my Great Great Grandparents). I'm hoping we can help each other as I've been researching this for quite a while without any luck! Sincerely, Jane
