I never knew either of my grandfathers, so one of those, or both if I'm allowed to be greedy.  I think there is a special relationship between grandparent and grandchild which I never knew.

Jonathan, we're in the same boat dude. My Mum's father died three years before I was born and my Dad's father purposely dissapeared shortly after he got my Nan pregnant with their seventh child. There are so many questions I'd love to ask each of them, but simply to say 'Hi Grandad!' would be enough to put a huge smile on my face.

The answer to this question could change on a daily basis with me!   Today I would like to meet my husband's grandfather who is virtually at the bottom of my tree and has caused me more trouble than anyone else!   I would like to ask him if he really deserted his wife and five children as she always made out, or if she ran off with someone else whilst he was fighting for King & Country.   I have more or less already ascertained that he was not gassed in the war as his wife said, and I have a sneaking suspicion that he did not die soon afterwards, as his wife said, but rather that he returned home to find that she had done a disappearing act!   I think he probably lived to a ripe old age - but I'd like to be able to ask him!

Henry Charles Mullins,   my GGgrandfather.
Born in 1853,  his parents both died by the time he was 6,  brought up by his maternal grandfather,  he worked on the Melbury estates from the age of 12 till his death aged 87 in 1940.  He was married for over 60 years and was a parish councillor.

He saw so many changes in his life time, the coming of the tractor, the telephone, electricity etc,  I would have liked to sit and chat to him.

If I was allowed two,  then my husbands GGrandmother Mary Kelly, who died in March of 1901 and has been proving very difficult to track down.

My great grandfather, John Charles GUILFOYLE, to ask him why he chose Charles GUILFOYLE-SEYMOUR as his stage name and also to ask him where in Ireland he was born. This is so frustrating because he died in Scotland so I have the names of his father and mother but not a specific place in Ireland :'(

I would like to meet G G Grandfather Christopher McGURN and have him tell me the names of all his brothers and sisters plus parents. Perhaps I could get past that infernal brickwall. Maybe then I could find out which McGURN's went to Canada, America and Scotland as I am convinced that most of the McGURN's during the 1840's are all related.

I would like to meet my Great Grandfather Charles Hill. He was never talked about by my Nan who always said he was "no good"!.  Turns out her Mum died after her fourth child was born and he then married the housekeeper and went on to have six more children (his second wife died two weeks after the last baby was born). He flitted between three very different jobs, an asylum nurse, an (unqualified?) vet and a landscape gardener......I've got a million questions to ask him!

There is not one ancester I would not wish to meet.
After documenting the lives of these people I feel that I already know them.

I would hope a little bit of each of them is what has become ME. ;)

Cheers
Geoff
