I'm looking for the family of my g g grandmother Mary Stretton (nee Jesson) b.1816 in Gilmorton. I believe her father to be Thomas Jesson but would like to find out more - can anyone help?

Hello…….

I think this entry from the IGI could be your Mary;
C034492
MARY JESSON – father Thomas, mother Ann, 21st May 1819 in Gilmorton

There were no other children showing for this couple – there was an Ann with father William & mother Elizabeth -  15 NOV 1818 in Gilmorton

Just a thought in your search,  on the 1851 there is this family –
 HO107; Piece: 2079; Folio: 497 in Smeeton Westerby, Leicestershire.

Thomas Jesson, Head, Marr, age 56,  Farmer of 47 acres, born Gilmorton, Leics.
Ann Jesson, wife, age 47, Farmers wife, born Smeeton, Leics
Thomas Jesson, son, aged 14, scholar, born Smeeton.
Ward Jesson, son aged 11, scholar, born Smeeton.
Robert Ross ? Brother in law, Un, aged 44, Ag Lab, born Smeeton.

This could possibly be your Mary’s father and his age from the 1851 makes him born about 1795 and on the IGI there is this entry;
Gilmorton – 7th SEPT 1794, C034491
THOMAS JESSON, father William, mother Ann

I hope it is of some help…..

Regards Sheila.

Hi Sheila and Mike,

Many thanks for your quick replies. I think this must be them, so I can now start searching a bit more.

Mike, the Mary and Thomas marriage is definitely mine - the Stretton's were all from Kimcote & Walton where they stayed until the 1871 census when they moved into Leicester.

Have you visited the Jesson family family history site? 200 pages of Jesson family tree.

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/jessonfamily

The Gilmorton family are included in the Fleckney family section

Mary Jesson was indeed the son of Thomas Jesson (1794-) of Fleckney and Smeeton.
He was the son of William (1769-1821) and Ann (WARD) of Fleckney
William was the son of William (1738-1822) and Mary of Fleckney

Mary Stretton died 1868.
