Thank you Barbara and Ecneps ;D,

This is really helpful.  Ada and Annie Alice are both in my family.  There are several Charlotte Merralls, but I was not sure which was which.  The Charlotte Merrall who married William Johnson Ogden is definitely one of my; I still do not know about the others.

There are a few others that I need to sort out.  I did not want to put too many on my first posting in case I did not get it right!  Now at least I know what to ask.

Any chance of looking up:
Catherine Merrall, marriage registered Sept 1897;
Ellen Merrall, marriage registered June 1897;
Harriet Merrall, marriage registered March 1872.

Am I correct to assume that this is not possible for marriages registered after 1901?

If talking about checking for the couples in the census, yes, up to 1901. Both spouses are shown in the GRO indexes to marriages from 1912

Could I just ask, if you would like some more census checking for couples, (apart from the ones you've already asked for), please could you put the alternative names of possible spouses, if you already have them from freebmd or elsewhere, to save time having to look up the marriage before being able to check census?

Here's Catherine married 1897 to Henry Drinkwater:

Ellen Merrall, marriage registered June 1897;
Harriet Merrall, marriage registered March 1872.

I think the Ellen Merrall marriage must be Jun 1879, but if it is 1897 can you give full details?  If both marriages are in the 1870s you could check for these matching couples yourself in the 1881 census, which is free to search on www.familysearch.org or www.ancestry.co.uk

This is my family -- William Johnson Ogden, who married Charlotte M.  How do I get more information on William?  I have everything from his son Thomas down to present day, but can't find any records on him or his parents, birth announcements, etc.

Here you go

Went to

Birth and ?parents marriage

https://www.freebmd.org.uk/

GRO for maiden name

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

and just tracked the census for William giving a matching address with his marriage cert. Found him with a father Thomas as marriage and thought the marriage to Frances a possibility and have a Notts disc to look it up, all needs verifying to make sure you have the right family :)

I always have a look here for references too
