SLAYMAKER
« on: Tuesday 22 May 07 16:59 BST (UK) »
Is there anybody out there interested in the Slaymaker family, Middlesex, 1840 - 1870's?  I've managed to trace the family back through the census's.  But I'd be glad to hear from any of you with more general info, etc...

I have a green earthenware dish/tureen stamped with "Slaymaker" and "Covent Garden" have never been able to find out much about it but believe it dates from 1930's era.
Were your family potters by any chance?

Thanks Pips & Jonanne,

My Slaymakers are all in London, Middlesex (at least all of the ones I've found so far) in fact quite a few of them worked in Covent Garden as porters mainly, I'm back as far as 1841 at the moment.  It's quite an unusual name, there must be a connection somewhere.  Any ideas or stories on where the name came from?
I have heard mention (family myth) of the family having a shop in London in which they sold crockery! but I've not been able to find out anything to corroborate this story.  The item you describe sounds really interesting, do you know anything more about it?

Thanks again,
Buckaroo

Joanne,

That's fab !  Thank you for posting the photo's.  I'm going to have to try and find out more about it, somehow.  Maybe trade directories of Covent garden would help.  I'll let you know if I get any further.  Thanks again,
