Davis familyrecords please
« on: Wednesday 23 May 07 21:25 BST (UK) »
Hello all, Im wondering if anybody could help me reasearch the Davis family of Ashleworth, Gloucestershire. Im looking for the marriage of a John Davis to a woman called Hannah, maiden name unknown. They had one child I know of, Elizabeth Davis, born 1822-25, most likely in Ashleworth, she went on to marry my ancestor Joseph Howell in December 1847. Any info on the Davis family would be appreciated, lovely common name to really get stuck into! :-\
Regards
Matthew

Some other little snippets for you:

1851 Census (HO107/1961, f38, p5)
Davis Cottage, Ashleworth
John Davis  Head  Widower  70  Ag Lab, born Ashleworth, Glo'shire
Thomas Voyce  Grandson  Un  14  Ag Lab, born Ashleworth, Glo'shire

John Davis married Hannah Hughes 6 December 1810 (this was found by searching the Genuki website entries for Ashleworth). Looking at the parish transcripts, Davis was a common family name in Ashleworth!

Mary Anne, daughter of John & Hannah Davis baptised 6 Oct 1811 (source as above)

Was going to look more bits up e.g. Hannah's death and a Davis-Voyce marriage but Ancestry seems to be playing up  >:(  Will try again later!

No luck on the Voyce/Davis marriage  :(

Two possible deaths for Hannah - Dec 1849 (vol 11, pg 267) or Mar 1851 (vol 11, pg 291). That is assuming that Ashleworth comes under the Gloucester registration district.

Let me know if i can help any more.

Good luck with the exams  ;)

Matthew,

Use the procedure at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/FindingBatchNos.html  to find the LDS batch numbers of info. extracted from Ashleworth parish records - there's quite a few baptism and marriage batches (prefixed C & M).

Then go to  http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true enter the surname Davis and the region's details plus one of the batch numbers and hit the search button; you will be given quite a bit of info.

I've looked at some of the stuff but you'll find it more interesting to DIY than for me to inundate you with what I saw. :D

Regards

Chas

Hi Matthew,

Looking through some transcripts that I have there is a John Davis married Hannah Hughes,
by Banns on 6th December, 1810 in Ashleworth.

Best wishes,
