Davison Lookup Please
« on: Monday 06 December 04 01:55 GMT (UK) »
My Gt Gt Grandfather William Davison married Elizabeth Scott in Newcastle in 1849, (cert purchased), and gave an address of Railway Terrace, Newcastle.

They had a son John Thomas whose birth was registered in Bishop Auckland in 1853.

Between then and 1880 when John Thomas marries in Scotland, Elizabeth his mother apparently dies, and William remarries, this time to an Ann, (possibly Walker) and they live in Darlington.

When John Thomas dies in Scotland aged 33 in 1886 from an infection easily treatable with penicillin today,  his father signs the Death Register (from Scotlands People) and gives his address as 4 Henry Street, Darlington, employed as a Locomotive Engine Driver.

William dies in the AMJ quarter of 1887 in Darlington.

The 1891 census find Ann Davison living at No. 3 Henry Street, with 2 lodgers in their 20's, both employed in the Steam Railway business.

She dies in the last quarter of 1892 leaving a number of unanswered questions.

Among them are where did William live in 1861 and 1871 and with whom, it could be Durham or Northumberland.

Can anyone help with this please.

From the 1881:

William DAVISON, Head, Married, 56, Railway Engine Driver, Northumberland, Slaley
Ann DAVISON, Wife, Married, 54, Newcastle Northumberland

living at 4 Henry Street, Darlington

RG11/4886  Folio 38  Page 19

This is probably your Wim and Ann, but now not sure about the 1871 data - you'll be in a better position to judge.
The age difference for William is quite interesting - I had an ancestor who married twice and it also took years off him! ;)

best wishes

Paul

Hi Bob

Based on the 1881 data, this is perhaps a better match for William in 1871:

William DAVISON, head, Widowed, 46, Engine Driver, Northumberland Hexham / Hesham?
Edward DAVISON, son, unmarried, 21, Engine fitter, Durham Lanchester
Annie DAVISON, daur, unmarried, 20, Housekeeper, Durham Lanchester
Mary J DAVISON, daur, unmarried, 15, Durham Shildon
Michael DAVISON, son, 12, Durham Shildon
Elizabeth DAVISON, daur, 6 Durham Shildon

living at Victoria St, East Thickley

RG10/4929 Folio 68  Page 10

Not sure where all the children will be in 1881 though- and no sign of John.

Paul

If John was born in Lanchester (as was Edward), c1852/53 then there's one match from 1871 that might be him:

John Davison, Apprentice, Unmarried, 17, Apprentice to butcher, Chester-le-Street

living in Birtley

RG10/4993 Folio 40  Page 29

cheers
