Sarah Jones - Gwarwenallt (War Wenault) Mydrim, 1861
« on: Friday 01 June 07 16:15 BST (UK) »
I am looking for my ancestor, Sarah Jones, in 1861. Her residence on the marriage certificate is given as War Wenault, Mydrim.

In 1881, her brother Henry is a farmer at Gwarwenallt, so I wonder if this is the same place. Who else lived with her in 1861?

Do you have any more info - approx year of birth, names of the parents? When did she marry - close to the census?

Give us some clues - this is a Jones query after all.

Sorry for the lack of detail.

Sarah was born abt. 1837 in Conwil Elfet.

Her father Dan Jones (b. abt . 1800) was dead by Dec 17, 1861 when she married.

I don't know about her mother, Ann, maiden name also Jones (b abt 1815, Abernant).

Her brother, Henry H. Jones was born in 1844 in Abernant and witnessed her marriage.

think this might be the brother and sister in Carmarthen
China Shop, Lammas St RG9/4140 folio 80 pg 10
Sarah Jones boarder 22 scholar b. Abernant
Henry Jones boarder 17 scholar b. Abernant
household headed by Harriet Thomas, several other boarders

ages match their entry in 1851 HO107/2474 folio 118 pg 12 at Llwyncelynuchaf and Henry's birthplace is the same, just Sarah's differs. Sarah and Anna also at Llwyncelyn, Abernant in 1841 HO107/1383/6 folio 5 pg 1, sub registration district would be Conwil.

three possible death registrations all Carmarthen
Dan Jones dec qtr 182 vol 11a pg 361
                  june qtr 1855 vol 11a pg 395
                  march qtr 1860 vol 11a pg 436
Too may Annas to begin to guess.

As Henry is described as landowner and farmer in 1871 and Dan was also a landowner, have you looked for a will? Pre-1857, either at the National Library of Wales or the PRO.

Forgot to say Warwenault and Gwarwenallt would be the same place. Should be the Wenallt ending  - white or blessed hillside.

Thanks so much, I guess wills are my next new adventure.

I have just experienced GRO marriage records. It isn't the easiest thing doing Welsh genealogy from Canada. I like to have as much internet evidence as I can before seeking the ones that cost a lot of  money.

Could you give me Henry's record for the 1871 census? I don't have his record then.

Thank you so much,  osprey. It is really wonderful to have people like you who are so generous of their time.

My siblings and cousins are really pleased that we are gaining a better picture of our Welsh ancestors. We have now figured out all our grandmother's great grandparents.

The next step, getting before 1800's seems to be a big one.  I will try your suggestion of seeking out wills and may write the Carmarthenshire record office for their help.

Once again, thank you, thank you!
