searching for WILLIAM STANWAY OHIO
« on: Monday 06 December 04 19:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi ,
Iam trying to find my find my gt gt grandfather family story has it that he went to work as a builder / bricklayer in Ohio he found a place for his family to live and they were all set to sail out there when sadly William died i don't have much info on William but what i have  is as follows
WILLIAM STANWAY born 1841 CONGLETON CHESHIRE BRICKLAYER / BUILDER BY trade , was in his 40 's when he died i have him on the 1881  census but by the 1891 census his wife ELIZABETH was a widow , so i presume he left for Ohio sometime between 1881 and  1891.
I know this is not much to go on put i would be most grateful for any help in this matter .

Hi Gah
How sad for Elizabeth to lose her husband.

The 1891 census indicates that "Fred" was 8, thus born about 1892/3 and hopefully Wm did not leave immediately.

Found a Wm Stanway (on shippnig lists) arriving in NY in 1884, but he was the wrong age (30.)  Hopefully someone else can help with this.

Ohio bdm records were not officially maintained statewide until 1908, but if you know the country in which he settled, US Gen Web may be of assistance.

Sorry I couldn't provide more. :-\
