Hello,

trying to find Thomson family who came from Ireland to Scotland.

I have the family in the 1851 Census of scotland.
A later death cert indicates they came from Armagh but not certain.

Alex Thomson          b 1814
Margaret Thomson   b 1806 nee Graham

Children

Jane         b 1834
John         b1836
Mary         b1838
Robert      b 1846
James       b 1844

Any help appreciated as I keep coming up with a blank wall.

Hello Margaret,

Three items are required when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish.
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as your ancestors were born prior to the introduction of Civil Registration in Ireland. This happened in 1864. The marriages of Non Catholic were registered from 1845 onwards.
