Flynn family from Mallow

Hello
I am new to Irish research so could do with some pointers on where to start. My mum, Catherine Beahan was born in Mallow in 1923 but moved to Dublin as a child as her father Thomas Charles Beahan was from there. Her mother was Catherine Flynn was born 4 January 1891 into a Mallow family although my mum thinks Catherine was actually born in Waterford as her mother was a lady's companion, possibly with a link to Lismore Castle. We believe she was brought up in Mallow - does Hume/Hulme Street ring any bells? That's where I have got to so any help would be fantastic
