Hi Tiffaney

Have had a look for Archibald's birth. There are 2 possibles showing on Scotland's People :

28/08/1831 SUTHERLAND ARCHIBALD WILLIAM SUTHERLAND/JANET SINCLAIR M Latheron /CAITHNESS 038/ 0020 0070 3

22/03/1823 SUTHERLAND ARCHIBALD COOK WM. SUTHERLAND/ U Latheron /CAITHNESS 038/ 0020 0019

I think it likely that the second one may have died as a baby but unfortunately there are no death records to prove this one way or another

Have found these as well :

16/06/1833 SUTHERLAND CHRISTIAN WILLIAM SUTHERLAND/JANET SINCLAIR F Latheron /CAITHNESS 038/ 0020 0091

13/09/1835 SUTHERLAND ELIZABETH WILLIAM SUTHERLAND/JANET SINCLAIR F Latheron /CAITHNESS 038/ 0020 0125

21/03/1841 SUTHERLAND JAMES WILLIAM SUTHERLAND/JANET SINCLAIR M Latheron /CAITHNESS 038/ 0020 0193

10/12/1837 SUTHERLAND WILLIAMINA WILLIAM SUTHERLAND/JANET SINCLAIR F Latheron /CAITHNESS 038/ 0020 0154

These look like Archibald's siblings to me.

William's siblings will be more difficult to trace without knowing his parents names. Do you know what they are ?

The same is true of Janet. Do you have a death date for either Janet or William ? If post 1855 their parents names will be on the death certs which would make it possible to find the births in the same way I found these.

To get copies of the certs you will need to join Scotland's People. But hopefull this will have given you a start.

Cheers

Ann

Hi Tiffaney

A possibility to consider as a starter is Scottish naming conventions. So eldest son is iusually named after father's father, eldest girl mother's mother, next son mother's father, next daughter, father's mother etc.

It's not 100% foolproof but generally a good rule to follow.

Thankyou Ann for all your help.

Agree with you re 1823 Archibald Cook Sutherland but it's great to have him as it confirms another Archibald Cook, my earliest one. The name has been handed down.

Also excited to see 1833 Christian Sutherland who I thought was born 1838 to William Sutherland & Christina nee Sutherland, also James ,as Christina had a witness James Sutherland at her wedding in New Zealand in 1868.
There's definitely a link.

Sorry wouldn't have any idea re William or Janet's parents or when they died only when Archibald (son) married Dec 1865 his father William was deceased.

Have printed what you kindly looked up to sort out  names as you suggested.
Very much appreciated Ann
Tiff

Hi Tiffaney

Cert is on its way. I've been on holiday in Oz for 3 weeks so no worries about delay at all

Hi Ann,

Would you know if the Christian Sutherland born 16/06/1833 Latheron, Caithness you found for me, married a William McLauchlan in 1868 in New Zealand. Just to check she is the same one.
Believe she left Scotland 1867. Thanks,
Tiff
