« on: Saturday 16 June 07 16:01 BST (UK) »
Would someone mind looking up the following for me please:-

Brett, Annie  b.1886  Keighly

Her father's name is Thomas

I think I may have fixed up 2 Annie Brett's.  Mine is definitely West Yorks.  I think her father may have died 1892 (have only just discovered this so cannot quote a death cert).

Thanking you
Dee

Hi Dee

This might be the one born in Keighley in 1886

The other one with a father called Thomas looks as if she was born 1888 in Batley (Registered in Dewsbury) but Thomas is still there in 1901.

Im going mad.  I've just posted a reply and it hasn't come up. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Ok, DS  Thank you for your reply.  My Annie's father was definitely Thomas. I will go back and recheck all the Thomas Deaths.

Wendy, It was definitely Keighly that Annie was born in 1886.

DS and Wendy, I will recheck all my data.  I don't want to give you duff info.  I thought I had got it all sorted. I totally despair at the Irish in our family.
Thank you both very much for time.

Hello again Dee

This is the other family in 1901 (the same four people appear in 1891).

1901

Dewsbury Batley RG13/4256 Folio 49 Page 25

Thomas Brett Head M 50 Builder’s Labourer Ireland
Mary do Wife M 53 Ireland
Mary do Daur S 27 Rag Sorter Yorks Batley
Annie do Daur 13 Yorks Batley

12 Norfolk Street, Batley

According to FreeBMD (which looks almost complete for the period) there were only two Annie Brett’s born in West Yorkshire from 1885 to 1889. This one and the one from Keighley shown on the earlier post.

These are also the only two which are readily apparent on the censuses.

DS, thank you so much.  I suspect that maybe there is another marriage for Annie's mother here somewhere.  I am slowly working through all my notes and double checking.  I've given my main file to a family member to have a look at, so I am working from my note book that has all the certificate nos and notes I've written in the margins.  I don't think I've got the stomach for another Irish search.  It's too long a story to go into here.  My Annie married our great Uncle in 1919 (even her age on marriage cert is out of synch) and when her husband died in 1951 she still wasn't able to write her name X marked the spot on the death registration!!!!!!!!  It's all so sad.
Thank you again DS, I will spend this evening checking and go and fetch that file back.
best wishes
Dee

HI Dee

If Annie Brett couldn't wirte how do you know her fathers name was Thomas?

Just to add the only Thomas Brett that I can see listed for the 1892  that you gave earlier was a 45* year old now going on the fact no-one ever knows how old their spouse was or their parents at that fact.  Then the only one I can find is  Thomas that was born circa 1847 and living in Keighly in the 1891 census with his wfie Harriet.

So what I am saying is the death that you found could be his?

Can also then ask as to how we know for certain that your Annie Brett was bn in Keighley.

but like you say best to wait til you have gone over ALL you INFO

Wendy,  it's a long story re this family, but when Annie registered her husband's death certificate, there are notations that she was unable to write and signed with the mark 'X' to indicate her signature.    This was 1951 and they were living in Leeds.  Anyway I am retrieving all the other paperwork and working backwards to finalise this part of the family file.  Thank you for your input and help.  It's much appreciated.
