The ulcer would have exempted him.

My Dad had served in WW1(under age) and joined up again the Sept. 1939 aged 41+ .

He stayed with his reg. until they were sent to India,but by then he was suffering from a Duodenal Ulcer. Was sent to a quiet Battery in Cornwall for a couple of months whilst he was "processed"and then Invalided out in 1941.

Sid was probably exempt on ill-health reasons then. His health didnt seem to stop him from a bigimous marriage, an affair with his sister-in-law, at least 4 legitimate children and 1 illegitimate - no wonder he got an ulcer ::)
