Hi Colin

Your David Strang is showing as born outside of Stirlingshire on the 1841 Census, everyone else is born in the county:

David Strang    57, Isher Maker M, b. Scotland
Janet Strang    56
David Strang    18
Mases Strang    17
Archibald Strang 16
Janet Strang    16
Ann Strang    14
Thomas Strang    10

Address: Buchlyvie, Kippen

Regards.

But then again, the 1851 entry is a bit of a mish-mash!:

David Strang    70, shoemaker, b. Kippen Perth
Jannet Strang    26
Mosses Strang    17

Address: Kippen, Stirlingshire.

I'll check the 1861 census and see whether he was till alive.

Added: Can't easily see him in 1861, may have died by then. Have you looked for his death cert between 1855-61?  1855 was the start of official registration in Scotland. If he died before this year, it will be hard to formally verify his parents as no death cert. including this info will be available.

There is only one death showing in Stirlingshire in his age group on Scotlands People:

1856   STRANG   DAVID   WATSON       M   79   KIPPEN   /STIRLING   484/00 0021

The Watson surname is the mother's maiden name. This ties up with this OPR christening entry:

DAVID STRANG  Christening: 25 JAN 1778 Kippen, Stirling, Scotland
Parents: JAMES STRANG    and JANET WATSON

You would have to view the image on Scotlands People to verify that this is your David. The cert. will include his wife's name and also this David's occupation. The name of the person reporting the death may also provide additional verification.

Regards.

The parents of David Strang were James Strang and Jannet Watson.  They married 19 Feb. 1775 at St. Ninians, Stirling.

David Strang was the eldest child born 1778.  Other siblings were:  Mary Strang born 1780, John Strang born 1782, James Strang born 1785 and Janet Strang born 1787.  All children were baptised in Kippen, Stirlingshire.
