1861 Census Hamilton, Ont. & Birth Look up Please
« on: Friday 29 June 07 04:32 BST (UK) »

Hi

Would someone look up on the Hamilton, Ont. 1861 census for George Bott, wife Esther, children:
Stephen, Alice, John, William, all born in England. They arrived in Hamilton  after June 1856.

Would like to find if their other children were born in Hamilton. Names are:
Timothy b. 1860, Twins Hannah & Rebecca b. 1861-1862 and Robert H. b. 1864. Sometime after the birth of Robert, they moved to Michigan.

Aley
Bott from Yorkshire, Davison from Durham, Ross from Inverness, Scotland, Robinson from England, Simpson from Scotland, Elliott from Yorkshire

Hi Aley,

Sorry to say but the birth indexes start in 1869.  Your best bet is to find them on a census to find where they were born.

Hope that helped in some way?   ???

Hi Nancy,

All the U.S. census has the last 4 children  birth place as Canada. We were told they were born in Hamilton, Ont.

What were the names of newspaper for the Hamilton area in 1869 to 1864?

Aley
Bott from Yorkshire, Davison from Durham, Ross from Inverness, Scotland, Robinson from England, Simpson from Scotland, Elliott from Yorkshire

Hi Aley,

The Hamilton Spectator is the local paper that started back in 1846.  Here is the website:

http://www.thespec.com/

They could probably do a search for you for a fee.

Hi Aley,

Another option is to contact the Hamilton Library and see if they have search services.  Here is the areas that they have in their special collections:

http://www.myhamilton.ca/myhamilton/LibraryServices/Genealogy/

To contact them you can find the form on this page:

Hope that helps in some way,

There are some people with the name "Bott" buried in Wentworth County. It might be worth getting in touch with the cemeteries to see if any are related, as they may be able to provide more details.

another Bott for you to keep in touch with, but he hasn'e any more info than you on them....http://www.ingersoll.net/ancestor.htm

You may just have some luck with some newspapers, as the birth of twins would have been newsworthy...That iseasy to say, if the family history is true, I guess.... J.j.
