Hi Marie

That is great!  It is all cleaned up, dirt and scratches gone.

Thank you very much.

Hi Maple

Here's my go.  Just so you know, any pic scanned at 300 - 600 dpi has enough dots per inch so that the pic can be comfortably stretched to print at A4 size without drastic loss of quality.

Wow

Thank you all, Caz, Mike and Marie.  I just turned on my computer this morning and found all these pictures.  :D  Thanks so much to all of you.

I want to learn how to do this myself.  How long does it take to learn how to do this?  I don't have Adobe, it is too expensive, but I bought Photoshop.  Photoshop doesn't have a very good manual with it.

Regards and Thanks Again

Maple

Maple,

Both Caz and I have Photoshop Elements... you need to do some playing and  work through some tutorials to understand what each of the tools do. There are some Tutorials sticked at the top of this board.
Here is another very basic EASY tutorial I came across the other day.
http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/tutorials.html
Once you've mastered the basics and get an good  understanding of dpi you can move onto colouring. All photos have to be restored well before colouring or it will ruin the quality of the end product. Also another thing to remember, there will always be more than one way to fix a problem most tutorials only show one way so as not to confuse you. But you will soon learn which you way find the most comfortable.

Which version photoshop do you have?

jc
Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic

Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.

Hi Maple

Glad you got a nice surprise.  Personnally, but I've never read a tutorial in my life.  I much prefer the trial and error method, that is click on it see what it does, probably takes longer to learn but I think you learn things outside the box that way.

I use Elements 4 but Elements 5 is available.  If you go to the Adobe website you can download a trial version for 30 days, then if you like it you have the option to purchase.
