Arthur Giles was with Thomas in 1891.

So it looks like our Thomas had 3 wives. Quite a lad!
He certainly seems to have liked children - even adopting one!
It's great to find these sorts of characters in our trees. It makes it so much more interesting!

My great grandad was , Edwin bates born : 20/07/1925, married to Doreen smyth born 1920's who is still going strong , they had 2 daughters , Linda Doreen bates and Karen Edwina bates,what would you like to know?

I take it that you are the son of either Linda or Karen?
I have a record of the Bates back to Thomas born about 1801 in Hastings who was married to an Elizabeth also from Hastings.
It's Ivy Bates 1922-2001 who was married to Sidney William Martin (known as 'Bill') whose son William 1949-1998 was my wife's first husband.
I would appreciate any detail such as dates you may have of any Bates before Ivy.  I have some info. but more detail would be good if you have it.
Let me know if you would also like any more info.
