Gellatly & variants (GOONS 3207)
« on: Tuesday 10 July 07 20:35 BST (UK) »
Worldwide collection of Gellatly, Galletly, and the 100+ variants.
Lots of data allready collected, although a lot more still to do.

Pleased to hear from anyone with a connection, and can hopefully help to fill in gaps, connections etc.

Also obviously pleased to receive any info on any family of these names.

Hi

Just surfing the site and the name jumped out at me.  My son-in-law's mother's maiden name is Galletly.  I have very little on the family as I've not got enough time to do my own properly.  Nevertheless I'm interested.

I'll give you what I have and see if it fits in with anything you know.

John Edmund Galletly (b.1868 d.1943) was a migrant to Australia reputedly from Scotland.  His father was possibly Peter.

His son George Harold was born in Melbourne  in 1906 and his daughter Valda (son-in-law's mother) was born in 1934.

That is all I have

Cheers

Bob

Hi Bob
I have all scottish births, but no John in 1868 to a Peter, or within 5 years.  There is a death of a John in 1868 (aged 7) to a Peter/Catherine McIntee.
2 births in 1868 - but neither fit with your details.
There is however a John Edmund (his father was Edmund) m Catherine Kirkwood and they had various children 1850 to 1871, but have no John noted.
Do you have any other details at all?
Mike

Hi Mike

Thanks for your reply.
No, I have no other info.  Just had a thought though, what if John Edmund was born in OZ and it was his father Peter who migrated.  I may have to try and get people to try and remember a few more details.

Hi Mike

Using holiday Monday to catch up with a couple of posts.
There are 31 listings for Galletly in New Zealand White Pages
http://www.whitepages.co.nz/
There is a Galletly family in my locality I'm slightly aquainted with..my brother went to school with him, I went to school with his wife's family and my children went to school with their children.
I have saved a newspaper supplement from January 2008 with an article on a Professor Duncan Galletly I would be happy to post to you if you are interested. Pm with an address to send to.

Gellatly 21 entries in the NZ White pages link I gave, left that info out as I was concentrating on the other spelling.  :)
