Thanks for the information Val, nice to see that 2 of Edwards children survived and prospered.

I will continue on my search for the maiden names of Edwards wife Elizabeth and Simons wife Ann, as yet, I have been unable to find their marriages but keep hoping that something will turn up as time moves on.

I will keep you informed if I find anything more.  Regards jenny

Hi Val and Jenny.  Have just found this post after finding that I might be related to the Kersey Finches.  It seems that my ancestor was Elizabeth King (nee Finch), born 1743, daughter of Edward, and granddaughter of Simon.

Just wanted to say "Hi Cousins!", and see if anyone's had any luck with the older Elizabeth or Ann's birth names...?

Cheers!
Mary

hi don't know if you are still active on roots web or not but....

i have found out that Simon Finch and his wife Ann were my 8th ggp's

whilst i have as yet to find his  baptism
what is clear though is that

Simon was buried 3rd of Jan 1733 in Kersey,

and this released Ann to go on and marry

Thomas hall(s) on the 20 may 1733 in Kersey.

Ann died 12 Sep 1763 in Kersey.

Thomas was possible baptised

22 Sep 1698 in stoke by Nayland parents Thomas and Sarah

it looks as if he married some one called Mary around 1723 but i have failed to find the marriage and likewise his burial remains elusive

This is as far as i have got with simon and Ann at this time other than they had 4 known children

Simon and John were baptised 11 may 1717,
Samuel was baptised 26 OCT 1719
Edward was baptised 26 Jun 1721 all in Kersey

i descend via john.

I too have hit a brick wall with my research into the Finch family. I have traced my ancestors back to John Finch b 1756 married to Mary Kinnerly in Etwall Derbyshire 30 October 1782. There is a tree in FamilySearch that suggests that his his parents were Edward Finch b 1721 and Elizabeth b 1724 and that his grandparents were Simon Finch b 1690 married in Kersey to Ann about 1716. As a novice is it possible from the limited records that are available to be reasonably sure of this heritage. The baptism records that I can find index's which don’t mention the parents name. Is any family tree accurate before 1841 or is it just guesswork. If there is proof where should I be looking.
