Dodds Family in Alnwick, Northumberland

Help required in looking up any and all records of a John Dodds b.1790 Alnwick, Northumberland - His father is William Dodds and mother Ann Darling from Embleton, Northumberland.

I believe the Dodds family ran the drapery for about 200 years in Alnwick town?

Any replies or information appreciated.

I have a William Dodds b 1807 Alnwick.  He married into my Pickard family (Mary b 1803) in 1824.  They had 2 children I know of.

According to census records he is a Mason.

I've tried to work out who his parents were but there are so many Dodds around in the town I'm not really sure.

Yes I know what you mean, that is why it is so hard to track down the right Dodds, thank God our surname was not Smith or Brown.

I can not see a match but like all Dodds, they came from an original line somewhere around 1300? Anyhow try out the Free Cen (Free Censis Website) for more clues.

i know what you mean by Dodds in northumberland

we can't get back before 1838 with our lot.

and to make matters worse we do also have smiths and browns

Have you checked the trade directories for Alnwick?  There may be some clues in that.  My Pickards feature quite a lot.
