can anybody help 1861 shropshire census please
« on: Saturday 11 December 04 22:19 GMT (UK) »
hi

i am finding it very difficult finding a birth hoping to find him with his parents,

james davies born about 1857 in stottesdon shropshire, in 1879 james was in stoke-on-trent staffordshire, i cannot find him with parents all i have is his father was john davies and he was a joiner, i have been told stottesdon is in cleobury mortimer, i am hoping he is still close by in 1861 he should be about 4yrs.

regards
jackie.

hi jan

thanks for that i have noted it down, i really need to find him in 1861 to get the names of parents, i only have his father on his marriage cert as john davies so i cant compare anything at the moment, i am really pulling my hair out with this one.

i have a few certs for arthur his son to give away wrong parents.

kind regards

jackie.

Hi Jackie

I’ve not got access to the 1861 Stottesdon census, but having noticed your plight I’ve looked at the 1851 just to see if I could see a John Davies who was a joiner and possibly a wife. I’m afraid this is all I found:

Stottesdon - Walkslow
John Daves - Head – 30 – Ag Lab Born: Salop, Broomfield (Note: the age is diff. to read)
Elizabeth - Wife – 38 – Ag Lab wife Born: Salop, Ashford
Children: Henery, John, Mary & Elizabeth

Stottesdon – Wrickton
Joseph Daves - Head – 29 – Ag Lab Born: Hrfds, (unreadable)
Ann – Wife – 32 – Ag Lab wife Born: Stanton Lacy

If they are of interest, let me know and I’ll give you the full details.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Hope you manage to sort out your brickwall before long.

John

hi john

thankyou so much for that, sorry about the late reply had so much college work you wouldn't believe, i will try to see if i can put these parents with james, i am wondering if the 1852 birth could possibly be james and he is making a father up on the marriage cert as we know often happened to save face, its not easy finding anything about shropshire, am waiting for the 1861 census, the births at hanley library are terrible to look at.

kind regards

jackie.
