Sancti- do you have Mary Ann's death certificate? or birth certificates of any children? maybe there's a 'better' attempt at spelling later on.

Well I suppose it could be third time lucky, aghadowey

So far we've Sancti has found McAhruie and McInruie.

I wonder if the guys at Scotlandspeople transcribed the name correctly.

Christopher the 2 images I got from SP are actual images of the marriage and death record and they do say McAhruie with mother name Teven.

Sancti- below is a possibility but can't confirm it yet. Thought about someone from Northern Ireland telling a registrar in Scotland their surname, etc. and North Antrim/Derry accent is very, very similar to Ayrshire accent so Mary Ann might have come from other parts of Scotland, then  tried pronouncing the surname the way you have it spelled- McAhruie and McInruie. Wondered if the name wasn't McIlroy and if 'Teven' could be something like 'Stephens.'
Then, leaving the spelling of surname for the moment, searched 1881 Scottish census for Mary Ann's family. Put in name- Mary (no surname), born Ireland, father- John, mother- Elizabeth. Not that many entires came up and the only one that seemed likely is McIlroy!

1881 Census- 12 William St., Milton, Glasgow:
John McIlroy age 50 Co.Fermanagh railway surfaceman
wife Elizabeth McIlroy age 40 Co.Fermanagh house keeper
son John McIlroy age 20 Co.Tyrone bolier coverer
dau. Mary McIlroy age 16 Co.Tyrone confectioner worker
dau. Ellen McIlroy age 11 Co.Fermanagh scholar
lodger Bernard Docherty age 24 Co.Tyrone plasterers labourer
lodger Patrick McHugh age 23 Co.Donegal masons labourer

Then went to IGI and BVRI to find this family in Ireland:
John McIlroy/McElroy m. Eliza/Elizabeth Murphy
1. Mary born 28 Feb.1864 Strabane dist., Tyrone (in 1881 census)
2. Margret born 28 Aug.1866 Clonelly dist., Fermanagh
3. Ellen born 10 Aug.1869 Clonelly dist., Fermanagh (in 1881 census)
4. Catherine born 20 Oct.1871 Co.Fermanagh

Problem is that 'Murphy' isn't even close to 'Teven' but if your Mary Ann was born 28 Feb.c1864 it still might be a possibility.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

You seem to get results when you impersonate accents of Irish counties, aghadowey.

I have found the death record of Mary Ann's father on SP it has been written and transcribed as John McInrue who was married to 1st Elizabeth Teven and 2nd Mary Ann Lettamer (sp)

John died in Coatbridge in 1907 and his parents are given as William McInrue and Ann White

His son John married and died in Coatbridge and his name is recorded as McInrue.

Any thoughts if this is the correct name and whereabouts in Ireland they came from. Marriages in Coatbridge are RC

There are 87 entries in the IGI for the name Teevan.I would think that this is the more common spelling for Teven. The largest concentration seems to be county Cavan.

To add to the confusion I have found his marriage to Mary Ann Letimour (sp) and his name is given as John McAroon (widower) parents are William McAroon and Ann White, so it is the right John

I have john on the 1901 census with the name recorded as McAroo

The RC records on SP show the baptism of his son as McAroon

More confusion to try to sort out  :(

I know this thread is very old, but Mary Ann is my 3rd great grandmother. I was doing some random searching on IrishGeneaology.ie looking for her and I haven't found her but I have found someone who could be a clue to her family.

MARGARET McILRUE born in 1864, to the Parents PATRICK McILRUE and ELIZA TIEVEN in Roundwood, Rathdrum in County Wicklow, Ireland.

I have searched for other members born in the same area of the same surname but can't seem to find anything and to make things more confusion, the father is a Patrick McIlrue and not a John as is recorded on Mary Ann's marriage and death certificates. But it seems like they must be connected as the names of the parents almost match up apart from the Patrick and John part...
