Jardine- weavers/shoemakers of Hayhill pre 1824
« on: Friday 27 July 07 13:03 BST (UK) »
I have a problem finding information on Joseph Jardine married to  Janet Kerr.

On the registration information for their children, Joseph's occupation is a weaver.

I think the only way I will link him to a family is to find other weavers. I am of course hoping he followed in someone's footsteps.

In 1824 Joseph and Janet left Hayhill, Tundergarth, for Canada. Other's Jardine research suggest Joseph born in Eccelfechan-excuse spelling, if incorrect - there is no proof of this, though.

Joseph and Janet were married in 1792. Joseph was at Hayhill and Janet at Rosebank.

Does anyone have weavers in the family tree?

Hi there,

They married in 1792.

So any weavers before, or after, that time.

Have found Janet's family, but still no indication as to Joseph's parents.

Still looking for the weaver connection.

Have you tried Ancestry or Scotlands People? I found Joseph on Ancestry and his children are listed but so far no indication of who his parents were.

Dumfriesshire: Bell, Kerr, Dickson, Hetherington
Orkney: Cursiter, Peace, Drever, Cooper, Paterson, Brock, Leslie, Malcomson, Miller, Scott
Cumberland: Charlton, Young

Thank for your reply.

I have all information on his family.

The only missing part is his parents. The only way I'll be able to connect him is through either weavers, or shoemakers.

Further information:

I have my Joseph at Tundergarth having son George in 1797.
The following were all found in Tungergarth registers, at Dumfries library.

Births and Marriages:

Also, at Tundergarth is James Jardine - weaver - 1794 birth of son James

In 1810, Jane is born to a Thomas Jardine, weaver of Hayhill.

Joseph is living at Hayhill, by this time, also.

By 1816 there is a James Jardine, at Hayhill who is a joiner.

In 1805, Joseph was living at Hallbank In 1809 a Thomas Jardine, of Hallbank, married Mary Edgar.

1815 - James Jardine, of Hayhill married Janet Robinson.

Deaths:

1793: James Jardine at Dixons, aged 63
1804: Mary Jardine at Hayhill, aged 72

Census:
1684 - Hallbank - James Jarden
                            Bessie Portis  wife
                            Jean
                            Margaret
Bessie dissorderly - either born elsewhere, or not at home

1791 - Dixons - James Jardine  59
                         Janet McVitie    58
                         Robert              25
                         Janet                22

          Hayhill  - Thomas Linton  61
                         Mary Jardine     59
                         James Linton    22
                         Alexander Jardine 15
                         Janet Dixon           14

                        Joseph Jardine       24

          Tundergarth - Janet Kerr      19

1823 - Hayhill - Joseph
                         Janet Kerr
                         Betty
                         William
                         Janet
                         Samuel

Joseph and Janet had two attempts to get a Samuel in the family line. I have not been able to make a connection as to why the Samuel was so important. I'd like to know if he was from the Kerr side.

Weavers seem to have fizzled out next generation became shoemakers.

Hi,

I have Janet and Joseph Jardine in my tree:

Son - George (Janet Ferguson)
       Son - Samuel (Janet Dickson)
Daughter - Willimina (James Gillis Sweezey)

Maybe we can help each other?
