Hi Jamjar

There are a few other children showing on IGI for Alexander Pratt and Janet Kay following their marriage in 1863. Might help in tracing families back with the use of middle names:

1. ALEXANDER STEWART PRATT Birth: 18 DEC 1863 Monifieth, Angus
2. ROBERT PRATT Birth: 16 FEB 1865 Monifieth, Angus
3. ARTHUR MONCRIEFF PRATT  Birth: 12 FEB 1868 Barry, Angus
4. DAVID PRATT Birth: 29 OCT 1870 Cupar, Fife
5. ANDREW PRATT Birth: 10 MAR 1873 Cupar, Fife

There looks to have been a number of early deaths for their children. Only David b. 1870 and Joana show in 1881 as you have found.

Monica  :)

There is a reference on Ancestry forums http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/surnames.lonie/4/mb.ashx to Elizabeth Lonie Pratt having died in 1870 in Cupar. Not sure if you will get her parent details from her death cert (if it is the correct one) as there is no reference to surname Lonie on the search on SP, just Elizabeth Pratt, 1870, Cupar.

Added: No wonder the names seemed familiar! Sorry Jamjar, I see from your previous post we have gone through this before - apologies  ;) www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,243785.0.html

Thanks for your interest, Monica.  :)

I've just had another look at the birth certificate for the twin girls.
Jemima's middle name sure does look like 'Strath'. Odd for them to use so many different middles, yes?  Is Strath a Scottish surname?

At the time of Jemima's birth they were living at Burnside, Cupar

Jemima was a witness for David's wedding in 1894.

Joanna is another daughter too separate to Jemima I believe. On her wedding certificate (2nd marriage) she’s listed Alexander as a Railway Goods Guard (deceased) she got married again in 1917

Welcome to Rootschat, Lelly.

You are the first person to link to my line.

I will need to get to the computer to refresh what I have on Jemima. I don’t think I ever considered that Joanna was a child of theirs, rather just assumed it was a mistranscription on the census.

How far back have you traced on Jemima’s line?

Hi,

Strath certainly is a Scottish surname.  :)

My 3rd Great Grandfather was a Strath from Aberdeenshire. There are also Scottish place names associated with it, such as Strathaven and others.

Thanks very much! I made the same assumption to be honest! Jemima was born 1874 and Joanna 1876 I think off the top of my head? Jemima is posing a bit of a problem for me. I’d gone back a few generations but then like an idiot, I deleted what I thought was a duplicated Janet Keay and deleted the whole bloomin line so I need to have a play and get them back! Which one is your direct descendant? I found a descendant of David, her brother. He had a child called Euphemia (Effie) popular name at that time it seems! He’s from her line : )
