ALLEN GREEN of Louth
« on: Monday 13 December 04 18:27 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the marriage of Allen Green b. Louth abt. 1831.  He appears in 1871 census as married to Marianne aged 35 b. Patrington, Yorks and in 1881 census married to Mary Ann aged 45 born in what looks like 'Saltor' Grange, Gedney Hill, which is where their second child Joseph Bryan Geen was born.  Is there a hamlet or a house near Gedney Hill with a name that might fit?  The transcriber has writen the word as Sutton but it doesn't really look like that on the image. I hope some one can help.

Chota,

This is how the LDS site displays the census information and you will see it is given as Salt or Grange.

Allen GREEN   Head   M   Male   50   Louth, Lincoln, England   Tailor
Mary A. GREEN   Wife   M   Female   45   Salt Or Grange, Lincoln, England   Wife
Joseph B. GREEN   Son   U   Male   26   Gedney Hill   Tailor

Source Information:
  Dwelling   47 Aswell Lane
  Census Place Louth, Lincoln, England
  Family History Library Film   1341778
  Public Records Office Reference   RG11
  Piece / Folio   3262 / 30
  Page Number   25

I think Gedney Hill is more likely to be a road rather than a village and I wonder if 'Sutton' is in fact Sutton Bridge, not too far from Gedney I don't think?

Hope this helps.

Hi
Gedney Hill is a village in South Lincolnshire, in the vicinity of Holbeach. The area comprises Long Sutton, Sutton St james, Sutton Bridge, Gedney Dyke, Gedney and Gedney Broadgate. I would say the nearest of the Suttons to Gedney Hill would be Sutton St James.
