Hi - John Harper was my Great Uncle x2 born 1818 He was the innkeeper at Pindar Oaks (162 Doncaster Rd) in 1871 and 1881 and he died in 1884 as did his wife Elizabeth.  On the 1861 census he is listed as a coal miner.
Peramar have we been in contact before as there seems to be a connection here ??
All the best.  Patvp

I was born in Pindar Oaks Hospital in 1955.
My great grandfather John Higham lived at various houses at Pindar Oaks cottages.
In the 1911 census he is listed at no.1 which is a shop and his daughter Edith is a grocer/dealer. I have tried everywhere for a photo of the shop to no avail.....unless someone knows better?

It was prob owned by her father John Higham a building contractor.

Some shops in those days were just the front room of the house they lived in.
