Andersons who left for Ireland

Trying to prove where my Andersons came from.  They appeared in Co. Antrim in the 1700s and were mostly involved in weaving.  I am told that most Andersons originated from Peebles.  Anyone any comments on this??  RosemaryJoan

Just browsing and saw your message. Just in case you haven't found anything out yet I have a dictionary of Scottish surnames but all it says about Anderson is - ' Peebles etc. 13thc: Clan name - Ross'.

Thanks for that excel.  I had read that bit about Peebles in a friend's book, but I didn't know the Clan name was Ross.  This is spooky because my g.g.grandfather was James Ross.  They all lived in the Ballymena area of Co. Antrim.
Could I ask you to look up Wallace and McCormick (McCormack).  Thanks in advance. Best wishes,Rosemary

Sorry, I don't know how I missed your reply. Here is what the book says about the names:-
'Wallace: Ayrshire, Renfrewshire 12th c
Maccormick: Maclaine of Lochbuie
Maccormack: Galloway 17th c; Clan Buchanan'

Thanks for that information - it's really interesting, as two of the websites giving Scots clan information doesn't even mention McCormick spelt in any way.  I thought that we had finally established that McCormick was an original Irish surname!!!  RosemaryJoan

Clan Maclaine of Lochbuie has a website - I'm sure you will have looked at it already. It confirms that one of the septs is McCormick! Hope you enjoy exploring this history.
