Shaw - Stillington - York - Doncaster

Hi,
Please can anyone help me!!
I am new to this and have come to a dead end.
I am trying to trace my great great grandmother, I know her married names were Shaw and Spruce.
Frances Elizabeth was born in Stillington in 1840, and living in Stillington in1881a schoolmistress with her 3 children - William (13) Alice (4, my great grandmar) and Harriet (2). Frances was widowed and her Married name was Shaw. William and Alice were born in York and Harriet was born in Doncaster.
In the 1901Frances was married to John Spruce, my dad can remember an uncle Tom Spruce in the 1940s and thinks he may be Gran's half brother.
The problem I have is I do not have Frances's maiden name or her husbands first name and haven't got a clue where to go from here.
All information or ideas of where to go will be greatfully appreciated.

Looked through the National Burial Index but no Shaw in Stillington. Ask for a look up and the 1861 and 71 censuses if you haven't already

John Shaw, Head, 38, Publican & Butcher, Nottinghamshire(Thornby on Palenthorpe)
Frances Shaw, Wife, 31, Stillington
John Bingley Shaw, son, 7, Scholar, York
William Shaw, son, 3, Scholar, York

Hi Lorraine

Just seen this.  Tom Spruce (Thomas) worked at the Woods building yard in Stillington and was the son of John Spruce.  I have loads of information on my family, so if you need any further help, please let me know.  Tom also had a son for your information (he was not married) whilst in the army, called Harold Lawn.  The army dictated that he had to give a sum of money each month to support the child.  I discovered that Harold had a middle name of you guessed Spruce.
