Bighouse in 1820s
« on: Friday 10 August 07 19:53 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know who owned the Bighouse estate in the 1820s, and whether there are any estate records still extant?
thanks,

Janet

Perhaps a (snail mail) letter addressed to
The Factor
at the address given at bottom of this site -

might help?

Most Estates have a Factor (for definition, please google it yourself as on a need to know basis, I don't ;D)
Ever been up here and seen it?

Good Luck.

I've been in touch with the estate manager; unfortunately the estate changed hands within the last ten years and they weren't given any records, but she kindly sent some information provided by the Clan MacKay Society, and suggested I contact the Strathnaver Museum. I've just emailed them, so will let you know if I turn up anything!

I heard back from the museum; they say that a previous estate owner (Katherine Wares?) kept the estate records, but didn't have contact details for her.
