How do i find...

OK gang, heres my problem...

ive got some old photos with names (Woohoo!) except they are only first names (d'oh)

So obviously i know who they are but how can i find out what their last names were??

Ive got a Catherine RUDD in the photo, only shes not a Rudd shes married! Ive looked on freebmd except they dont go far enough.
i know she lived in WIgan, Lancs and that she must have married sometime from 1907 to perhaps mid 1920's.

The photo i have seems to be a wedding photo of Catherine, and two of her daughters with their husbands. Also ive dated the photo around late 1930s, maybe early 40's.

So any suggestions as to what i should do to find out more about this line??

PS: i live in Oz so visiting register offices is kinda impossible for me.

You need to find a marriage record for Catherine, which means looking on 1837online for a Catherine Rudd marrying in the Wigan area at about the right time.  Once you've got the certificate and know her age you can try the 1901 census.  It's going to be a bit expensive.

Ive got Catherine in the 1901 census, shes single. Catherine is a sister of my ggrandmother.

Catherine is also listed as a witness on my ggrandmothers marriage certificate and she is still single then, the marriage took place at the end of 1906 so im assuming Catherines marriage happened sometime afterward.

I had a quick search and found this one:

Doesn't seem to be the right one though, as its Liverpool. However, the site is updated regularly, so its worth checking up again every now and again.

Note that the county BMDs frequently differ from FreeBMD in content.

Youre rght when you say the index doesnt seem to be the right one, 

Catherine was single in 1906 aged 25 so i must assume she got married after this date!

Anyway as usual will continue searching!
