1600s Orkney & Shetland Names Sources
« on: Saturday 25 August 07 07:08 BST (UK) »
If any of you are so fortunate as to be this far back in your histories, The Court Books of Shetland and Orkney, covering ca 1600-1643 might be of use.  Only 2 or 3 have been transcribed and should be available in some Scotland libraries.  The originals (if accessible) should be at GRO in Edinburgh.  They were in 1962 when a cousin of mine (Robert S. Barclay) transcribed the 1612-1613 records.

Greer - Renfrewshire
Manson - Aberdeen & Orkney
Simpson - Hereford, Devon, etc.
Flett - Orkney
Chisholm - Scotland
Wishart - Orkney
Shand - Aberdeen
Pirie - Aberdeen

Thanks so much Nick! Didn't know that!
Unfortunately I'm in Canada and I can't continue my line back past 1720. Lol.
Maybe one day I'll get there  :)
