1861 and 1871 census look up please
« on: Sunday 26 August 07 13:46 BST (UK) »
Could someone try and find James Kerr born c 1815 in the 1861 and 1871 census.  It should be Dumfries.  He was a cabinet maker.  He died in 1880.  His wife was Mary born c1820 but she was dead by 1870

Thanks

Betty

Brilliant Gadget just what I wanted.

It gives me a David Kerr apprentice Compositor.

I had picked up his name on a grave stone referring to his daughter Jessie who had died 2 years old. It said he was a compositor. It was on a family grave and I was not sure where he fitted in.

Thanks for that.

Betty

Pleased about that Betty  :)

Do you have them in England? Interesting that they must have been there in the 1841 and 1851 censuses.

Elizabeth was definitely Bolton:

June q, 1848, Bolton, vol, 21 page 202

George was baptised 12 June 1845, Dumfries, Parents James Kerr and Mary Ewart

Now I feel better  :D

Thanks for all that.

Again you have given me a lot more that is going to sort out a few pending problems.

Bolton is good as a John Kerr who was a relation to the James and David died in Little Bolton in 1878, and Carlisle is good also.  In a previous message today I asked if anyone knew where Burranhill might have been before 1800s as the earliest ancestor Francis Kerr was a son in law of James Haugh of Burranhill so that could explain a few things.  As I found a possible Burranhill in Carlisle.

I have got to sort out a few things to make sure I get things right.

Thanks again.

Betty

Just working my way through this.  I am being a bit stupid but what do you mean by see 1861.  It says George was born in Dumfries.
