Hi

WOW

Thank you so much. The medical card is amazing. It does confirm his full name of Henry.

The 1891 census details certainly tie up with all the place names. There's a lot of information for me to work with.

Thank you so much.

Very best regards

Amanda

Hi

Just downloaded the Med card. Unfortunately, it doesn't give me any further information. It has given me a new place of reference though.

Thank you

sometimes you get lucky - so if its given you a lead thats good.

Did he just have a Silver War Badge, or any actual campaign or gallantry related medals ?

Can be hard to decipher ....

Having his Army number will help research him if you want to spend a day at Kew - or post on the Armed Forces forum here, theres a couple of researchers who may be able to help you.

Hi

As far as I can tell, the card indicates Victory and British? I don't actually know what that means but I shall look it up.

Thank you

Best regards

Amanda

see if you can find where the Parish Registers for Newbold are today - you might get lucky and find that his middle name is recorded.

I did mean to look at the earlier marriages on both sides to see if it surfaces as a maiden name ...

Looking back in time for Chas Glasby's lineage, he's with an Uncle and Aunt in 1871 and 1881 ...

so his Dad was this John's brother (or, mabe his mother, unmarried was a sister ... )

Doesnt seem like we are going to see them on a Census ....  :(

Masbro' seems to be about 10 miles from Chesterfield - sort of Rotherham, if thats right ?

It doesnt show up specifically as part of the Chesterfield RD, but I think this must be our mans Birth Entry ..
