Just checked 1881 and they are not living there.

Head of house in 1901, Thomas, has his place of birth as Cwmtawe, Brecs. so might be worth looking there.

thanks, dont really know how to go about finding people relating to places, all i've done so far is follow through the census' :-[, i'd love to find out if this thomas was a relative, but i think until i find some info on henry alexander (like when he moved to wales, with brothers or even an uncle)i'm hitting a brick wall, as i cant locate him before 1901 he's not on 1891 census in wales, so i'm guessing he came between these years, which led me to believe that he came alone???? i dont know, be nice if thomas alexander was a relative of his but i dont know how i can find this out. thanks for your help. ;D

Yes I see your problem. There is no sign of Henry that I can see either in Wales or England.

I found the following on 1891 which is confusing

RG12/4418 F74 p53

Brook Street Llantrisant

Evan Alexander Head M 38  Collier    b Ystradgynlais
Margaret   "       Wife  M  36                          "
Elizabeth     "      dau        2              b Penycraig Glam
Rachel          "     dau        26   Dressmaker       b Ystradgynlais
Martha Williams   wife  M 27   Dressmaker        b Ystabyfors?  Glam

Seems strange as Rachel at 26 can not be dau of Evan and  Alexander or dau of Martha Williams.

Probably just more confusion.

There are the following births in the area

Rachel Alexander Dec qtr 1891 Pontardawe 11a 823
Rachel Aexander Dec qtr 1878 Pontardawe 11a 589
Rachel Alexander Jun qtr 1865 Neath 11a 535

Have you checked the original of the census - there could be a transcription error. Also Evan as head appears to have two wives!
Jones, Davies, Evans, Williams, Daniel, Thomas - Glamorgan
