It is not D.C.L.I. is it? as this would make more sence. If it is then it would be the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. As Ricky has said what is his name?

I have had a look on the medal index cards  on the national archives site for Ernest and can only find three soldiers by that name serving in the D.C.L.I. of these one is Ernest J. and the other has just the forename of Ernest. The third one is down as Ernest R. Collins. Pte. S469. serving with the 5th Btn D.C.L.I. You can down load an image of the medal card for Ernest R. for £3.50 from

 www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Go into the section for 1st ww campaign medals and place his details in the search area's and the image should come up. Once you have the image post it on up on the board and someone should be able to tell you what it all means.

If you are member of ancestry.com you can now view and print off images of 1st ww attestation papers. It does take a bit of search but if his records where not one of those distroyed during the second world war (refered to as "the burnt records") then there is a good chance that you may find something about him. The attestation papers will have details about the man enlisting such as colour of hair and eyes, any scars, height, weight etc plus next of kin etc etc. Sometimes, when you locate these papers there is a lot of information given and they can run into xx amount of pages other times there may only be three or four.

Regarding the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry - I am looking for a Smith/Collins connection. I have two brothers Smith enlisting in India in DCLI, one of whom married Elizabeth Violet Collins from Gravesend, near to the Chatham barracks of DCLI.
I will share any information with anyone.
