Hi Tess,

I'm also researching the Shiells family from Leith.  James Shiells (b.1878 in Leith) married to Agnes Seath.  James's parents were George Shiells and Mary Henderson.

Any connection to your Shiells?

Regards,

Maggie

I know very little about my Sheills/Sheils  famly.

I have Joan Shiells/Shiels born about 1800 in Haddington, I believe she was the daughter of Peter Shiells and Elisabeth Lemon. Joan Shiells married Robert Anderson and they had several children also born in Haddington.

I also have a Robina Shiells/Shiels in my tree who married John Paterson a Master Plumber of Plumbing company Paterson and Burns. I am unsure when and where Robina was born. But John Paterson was born about 1801 in Canongate, Midlothian. I have often wondered if Robina might of been a sibling of Joan, but haven't been able to prove this yet. As funnily the daughter of John and Robina married the son of Joan and Robert.

The marr's in my tree all seemed to originate from the Prestonpans area and indeed the majority were fisherman. The furthest back on the marr's that I have gone is James Marr who would of been born in the early 1700s he married a Margaret Veitch. The James Marr name seems to carry on down the line.

Hi Tess,

Thanks for your reply.  At the moment, I can't connect with your Shiells family.

Regards,

Maggie
