1841 or 51 Margaret Speakman COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 11 September 07 14:31 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Bit of a toughie this one.

Info from the '61 as follows:

Margaret Speakman b.1831 Bolton

Nearest I can find on the LDS is Margaret Speakman bapt. 1830 Atherton illegitimate daughter of Mary (there's a further daughter of Mary b.1847- Martha). Had a look at the census for Atherton on the OPC site and no Margaret.

In '61 she's resident as a boarder with a Speakman couple in Wigan. Marries in 1852 in Wigan and husband dies shortly after.

Many thanks.

Hello, Leeic,

Can you give some details of Mrgaret's married name & the details of the 1861 census of the Speakerman couple in Wigan. ?

I have found a Margaret Speakerman in the 1841 census, dau of Robert & Alice, aged 12 which puts her birth c.1829.  She went on the marry a Richard Crouchley, Sept.13th 1852.  The '41 census & the marriage took place in Ashton in Mackerfield, Lancs.  Does this have any significance for you ?

Do you by any chance have her marriage cert ?  This would give you her father's name.

Hi Suz/Meliora,

1861 (see post from CatOne):

1861 RG9/2771 f117 p30
17 Primrose Hill Wigan

Richard Speakman b.1821 Wigan
Isabella Speakman b.1823 Wigan
Margaret Westhead, boarder, b.1831 Bolton
Ellen Westhead, daughter, boarder, b.1854 Wigan.

Margaret Speakman married James Westhead 1852 Wigan. James Westhead died 1853 Wigan.
Richard Speakman married Isabel (sic) Rudd 1840 Wigan.

Think Richard b.1820 Wigan the illegitimate child of Ellen Speakman - so the '51 for Margaret may be significant, any idea of relationship ? Also, Hursley appears to be in Hamps. could this be "Hindley" ?

Cheers, Lee.

Hi,

Just had a look at the LDS - could it possibly be "Astley"?

Hi lee
Have modified the 1851 -Margaret was the daughter of Ellen Speakman - I noticed in another thread you thought Richard's mother may be Ellen
