Could a kind soul....
« on: Tuesday 11 September 07 21:31 BST (UK) »
Hi!

Could a kind soul here do a bit of looking up in the old newspapers for me?

I am not based in the UK but on other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

I am trying to find a bit more information on my Francis McKenna who drown in River Avon on 1st January 1886 according to his death certificate and RCE from Stirling, Slammann.

Hopefully the article would tell us a bit more about his drowning and possibly on his family.

Any help would be most welcomed and gratefully received.

Kind regards,

Tees

Hi Tees.
I would love to help if I could, but can I ask why you have posted this on the Lanarkshire board if you are speaking about Stirling?
If there is something that I have missed, please excuse me.

From the previous posts, Francis McKenna was a resident of Longrigg, New Monkland

Hi Gail,

Did not realise that Stirling is not in Lanarkshire--Sancti is correct that my Francis was the resident in Longrigg, New Monkland.

Surely, the newspaper would cover the story on him as he died on New Year's Day in 1886 and drowning would make a story in Longrigg and Stirling newspapers.

Hope to find any new information from the newspapers of the day.

Thank you for your interest. :)

Regards,

Tees

Years ago, I was told his father, Francis McKenna had drowned in Scotland.  I was never able to find anything on this until I saw your post today.

Interested in sharing info.

What was his occ. given as on DC as this may explain why he drowned away from home?

Annie,

I would have to look it up and it is in one of my many files.

He was from the North of Ireland (Co Antrim).

He married my great great grandfather’s sister.

Kind regards,

Tees
